Soft Play Sensory Rooms

Padded walls and floors, dens, slopes and ball pools, made to measure for your room. Here's what goes into a soft play sensory room and how we fit it.

Soft Play Sensory Rooms

What is a soft play sensory room?

A soft play sensory room is a padded space built for climbing, crawling, rolling and tumbling, where every wall and floor is soft. Dens to hide in, shapes to clamber over and a ball pool to sink into make the whole room something to play in, not just look at.

Soft play works on its own or alongside light and sound. Many of our rooms combine padding and soft play with a multi-sensory setup or a sensory integration swing. See all the types of sensory room.

What goes into a soft play sensory room?

Start with padding made to fit the room, then add things to climb, crawl through and hide in.

Padded floor and walls

Made to measure, fitted in two visits

Accurate measuring

Padding only works if it fits exactly, so we measure the room ourselves rather than working from plans.

Two visits

We install the equipment on the first visit and take final measurements. The padding is made to fit, then we come back to fit it, around four weeks later.

Height and thickness

Our standard wall padding is 3 inches thick and 120cm high. We can take it higher where the room needs it.

Three soft play rooms at Little Woodlands

At Little Woodlands Children's Day Nursery we fitted three rooms, one each for babies, toddlers and preschool, with slides, dens, an illuminated ball pool and a swing on a sensory integration beam. It's a good example of the padding and soft play we can create.

Soft play sensory room FAQs

How long does a soft play room take to fit?

Two visits. We fit the equipment and measure first, then come back around four weeks later to fit the made-to-measure padding.

How thick is the wall padding?

Our standard wall padding is 3 inches thick and 120cm high. It can go higher.

Can soft play go in a small room?

Yes. Because everything is made to measure, padding and soft play shapes are planned around the space you have.

Can we add lights and sound?

Yes. Many soft play rooms include a ball pool, bubble tube or projection. See multi-sensory rooms.

Can we add a swing?

Yes, if there's space. See sensory integration rooms for how much room swings need.

Do you design rooms for different ages?

Yes. At Little Woodlands we designed separate rooms for babies, toddlers and preschool children.
