Compression can help. There is something reassuring about a weighted blanket. It's almost as if the body needs an excuse to stay still, and relax. A body is a complex sensitive system, its proprioceptive sense is strongly stimulated when weight is applied to it. Many people respond to this proprioceptive stimulation by relaxing. Weight causes compression thanks to gravity, pressure applies compression in all directions and is highly adjustable preventing the body from acclimatising (and losing the benefit).
