What Is Play?

Play is how we learn, how we develop how we progress. Play is the most powerful engine of growth that we have.

Everyone knows that play can get us to good places, good old play, driving your child toward the future. Play is like a car.

And driving is fun, we enjoy getting to the places that car takes us. It’s the enjoyment that makes the trick work.

At TFH we want to show you that enjoyment engine.

Because the child at play is driven by something harder to describe, and when play becomes about getting places, something important is lost.

The reason the car gets from A to B is because the engine is rotating, play is spin, a circle, it goes nowhere.

Play-as-a-line has a whole modern language of benefit befitting its capture: regulation; gross motor; cause and effect; developmental stage; milestones; school-readiness.

Play-as-a-circle is un-describable, Language hides play under the fun bonnet.

Not here. TFH offer toys for people with special needs, we recognise the difficulty of describing purposeless pleasurable play, that’s why our category texts are so strange, we are trying to apply this philosophy to our products.

We make toys that overcome obstacles to play because we believe in its power, part of the obstacle is you, you have to see the engine, you have to value the spin, accept that purposeless play is good for the engine. Join in.

Pure pleasure, pleasure even in the frustrations that might be overcome next time. Play is the engine, look after it, it will take you purposeless places you enjoy.
