Touch and Feel

Touch is an outlier, a diffuse and bodily system, more octopus than lizard brain. A rich and varied tactile diet is an invitation for our bodies to explore. Tactile exploration is a healthy challenge to both defensive and overly seeking systems. Here you have found "finger food", the weirder the better: an all you can feel buffet from our bazaar. What is exploring?

Touch

What the hand learns by holding.

Fidget and fiddle

Small objects worked by the fingers. The hand busy, the mind freed. Not a habit to break, a need to feed.

Fine motor

Fingers gripping, pinching, turning. The handwork behind laces, buttons, pencils, built in play.

Tactile discrimination

Telling textures apart by feel. The more the hand holds, the finer its judgement.

Self-regulation

The right texture in the hand can settle the whole body. Better the squish than the chewed sleeve.

Portable by design

Pocket-sized, grabbable, carried. The texture that travels, ready when the hand needs it.

Play, not management

For the tactile spectrum — seeking, defensiveness, hypersensitivity — the sand and water page goes deeper.
