Supporting Mental Health and Inclusion: Tips and Awareness for October
Posted by Jesse on 10th October 2025
October is a special month at TFH Canada—full of awareness, celebration, and opportunities to create more inclusive spaces. And today, on World Mental Health Day, we’re focusing on one of the most important aspects of well-being: supporting mental health for individuals of all abilities.
Mental health looks different for everyone, but one thing is clear: small changes in our environment can make a big difference. Sensory tools, like weighted blankets, fidget toys, calming cushions, or creating a cozy sensory corner at home or school, can help reduce stress, improve focus, and promote emotional regulation.
Here are a few tips to boost mental well-being with sensory supports:
- Create a calm corner – A quiet space with soft textures, gentle lighting, and calming tools gives kids (and adults!) a place to reset when things feel overwhelming.
- Incorporate movement breaks – Simple activities like swinging, bouncing on a therapy ball, or stretching can help regulate emotions and energy levels.
- Use tactile or weighted products – Squish tubes, fidget tools, or a weighted lap pad can provide comforting sensory input and reduce anxiety.
- Engage with nature – Outdoor sensory play, like sand, water, or textured paths, supports both mental and physical well-being—perfect for Take Me Outside Day this month!
While today highlights mental health, October also shines a light on other important awareness causes. From ADHD and Down Syndrome to Dyslexia, Spina Bifida, and Cerebral Palsy, raising awareness helps us better understand and support the unique needs of every individual. Simple accommodations—like adaptive learning materials, sensory breaks, or supportive tools—go a long way in creating inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive.
At TFH Canada, we’re proud to offer sensory solutions that support emotional regulation, learning, and engagement. Whether it’s a weighted blanket to calm the mind, a tactile tool to aid focus, or a full sensory corner for home or school, these small changes can make a huge impact.
This World Mental Health Day—and throughout October—let’s celebrate awareness, inclusivity, and the power of creating spaces that nurture mental well-being for all.
